Huntsville’s In the Mood Big Swing Band is an exciting, high-caliber 18-piece swing and jazz orchestra based in Huntsville, Alabama. While inspired by the groundbreaking legacy of Glenn Miller in its early days (earning the nickname “Glenn Miller band of North Alabama”), the band has evolved into a dynamic, versatile ensemble that honors the golden era while embracing a broader, modern sound.

Now over 11 years strong since forming in late summer 2014, the group started as a family combo but quickly expanded into a full big band of passionate local musicians who treat rehearsals and gigs like family gatherings. Most performances featuring an 18 player powerhouse, complete with a driving rhythm section, soaring horn lines, and our two vocalists, offering distinct styles for maximum variety.

The band thrives on powerful brass energy, with scream trumpet moments that electrify the room, rich section harmonies, and arrangements that fill the air with authentic big band magic. Repertoire spans crowd-pleasing favorites from Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Peggy Lee, Dean Martin, Michael Bublé, Brian Setzer, and Ella Fitzgerald, alongside classics from Count Basie and Duke Ellington. A few beloved Miller standards remain in the mix, but the focus is on upbeat, positive swing at its finest — plus Latin, Motown, oldies rock, pop, and funk to suit any vibe.
