Booking Notes
A live band is always the best way to keep an event elegant and alive. There is energy between the musicians and the audience & dancers, and the two feed off of each other! When booking a live band there are some key things to plan for.
Space
A 21 piece orchestra requires a healthy amount of space. Most rental spaces can more than adequately handle the full band plus the event attendees. When enquiring about events, keep in mind the space constraints of the venue. Once contacted, it is best to take a trip to the venue to do a sight check, and to make plans for setting up the band, as well as finding proper power sources and other nuances that will help us plan for your event and make it as smooth as possible on the day of.
If your venue is indeed too small for the entire band (many wedding venues tend to be on the small side), the band can be broken down into a medium band with 12 or 13 people instead of the full 21. There is a sacrifice of harmony with less instrumentation, but the quality of the band is just as good. The full band is always recommended, but the medium band is also a viable option.
Staging
Staging isn’t always necessary, but can be useful. If the venue is especially large, or is outdoors, then having a stage helps us get our sound out, and is a great way to put focus on the band. If it is decided that a stage is the route to go, then a stage with the minimum dimensions of 16’x24′ is ideal for our size group. To really go all out, having a drum riser and brass riser would definitely add some dimension to our appearance.
For most of our events, we just typically setup on the floor, and that adds a sense of unity with the audience and dancers.
Sets, Equipment and PA
Brass players can only play for so long before lips turn to mush! To keep the music going, we play in 45 minute sets with 15 minute breaks in between. We will provide our own instruments, music stands and stand lights.
For small to medium scale events, the band can provide a sound system that will be satisfactory. For larger venues such as convention centers or concert halls, a larger system must be rented. If one is needed, we have a trusted vendor and can take care of the renting legwork for you, and include the price of the rental in the quote so you won’t have to worry about anything extra.
